In 19th-Century Dublin, a union of candlestickmakers--the Waxies--gathered annually to hold a festival that drew a crowd from miles around. People would save their money for months before the party to make sure that they could afford to dress up and buy a few drinks. The event became known as the Waxies’ Dargle, inspiring the popular Irish pub song of the same name.
In 2007, a new incarnation of The Waxies came together in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to share traditional Irish music in their own way. The Waxies combine acoustic instrumentation with raw punk energy for a unique sound that fills the dancefloor and empties pint after pint.
Many thanks to to all the friends, families, and hosts who have helped The Waxies do what we do, and special thanks to Bill Quinn of Quinn & Tuite's Irish Pub, Liam Lynch ("Liam the XL Leprechaun"), and David James of Double D Productions for their continued dedication to our cause. Sláinte!
